Welcome to Civilpedia

Civilpedia is a website for the world, where anyone can teach everyone, anything.
We built it to be a place where exploration is encouraged. It's our hope that Civilpedia can become the world's school and library, as the whole earth catalog was years ago.

What can Civilpedia do?

We are constantly improving its features, but at its heart Civilpedia is a place to share information and collaborate with other people. It supports Chapters, Pages, Threads and Chat.
Chapters:
When you join a chapter, you can be notified of new threads by email, text message or both. You can find other people following the chapter, and get to know them! You can assign #categories to chapters which will help people find them.
Pages:
Pages are places for information inside groups or blogs. They are a great place for tutorials or collaborative projects, and have a wonderful editor that lets you get straight to writing right away! A collaborator is someone who is responsible for a page, and just like groups, pages can have discussions and followers too. You can assign #categories to pages just like you can to groups, which will help keep pages organized inside a group.
Threads:
Threads are a place to ask questions, get answers, and come to consensus on whatever subjects you might want to talk about.
Blogs:
Everyone on Civilpedia has a blog, where they can share with the world anything they might have to say. Just like groups, you can subscribe to new posts on a blog.
Chat:
The Internet Relay Chat is a place for people to talk in real-time with other people in a group's #channel (if it has any). Unlike traditional IRC though, the posts in the chat rooms are recorded so you don't always have to be logged in, and so newcomers can see what happened in the conversation.

Who runs Civilpedia?

Civilpedia is run by some computer nerds in Oakland. The site itself is running on small server, heating up a cold a bedroom. We anticipate this should be sufficient for some time, as Civilpedia was written from scratch and packs a lot into very little memory. Eventually, we'll upgrade to a few more servers in the local community center, and warm up that building too. Donations for more RAM and SSD space are welcome!
